Today is the start of September but more importantly it’s the start of Blood Cancer Awareness month and as most of you know this is incredibly important to me. Since my diagnosis in January 2014 (I can’t believe it’s been that long ago) I have been doing as much as I can to raise awareness of cancer and throughout September this won’t change, blood cancer gets no where near as much awareness as it should and I want to help change that. I will be working closely with Blood Cancer UK in my ambassador role and posting on my Facebook page Team Samba.
Blood cancers don’t discriminate and can affect anyone at anytime. The symptoms of blood cancer can often be put down to something else, early diagnosis can make all the difference when it comes to treatment.
▪️ There are 137 types of blood cancer and related disorders.
▪️ Blood cancer is the fifth most common cancer in the UK.
▪️ Every 14 minutes in the UK, someone is diagnosed with a blood cancer. That’s almost 38,000 people every year or 104 each day.
▪️ About one in 25 people will be diagnosed with a blood cancer at some point in their lifetime.
▪️ Blood cancer is the most common in children and young adults. Leukaemia and Lymphoma together account for about four in ten childhood cancers.
▪️230,000 people are living with blood cancer in the UK.
▪️ The third biggest killer in the UK is blood cancer. 38 people die from blood cancer everyday. 14,000 people lose their lives to blood cancers and related disorders every year in the UK.
So basically this was just an introductory post to let you know I will be posting more in the next few weeks, these posts will involve talking about different cancers and their symptoms. I understand that talking about cancer can be hard for a lot of people but after going through it myself I feel I can easily open up about it and want to use this as a way to raise awareness.
Are you doing anything this month to raise awareness of blood cancer?

I am living w/myelofibrosis (MF). I’ve had essential thrombocytosis (thick blood, high platelet counts) for over 20yrs and recently progressed to MF.
Thank you for helping awareness OB blood cancers. I learned a lot from your blog entry.

Thank you for taking time out to write a comment, I’m sorry you are living with MF. I hope you are doing well ❤️ Raising awareness is so important as most people don’t know the symptoms etc of blood cancer. I hope to continue to raise awareness!
