I feel like I need to put a disclaimer at the start here because I have tested a couple of The Ordinary products before but in a previous blog post so this isn’t a first, FIRST impressions but I just wanted to do a first impressions of a couple of new products I have picked up recently from the brand.
The Ordinary is a brand I have loved for a while because of how affordable their products are and just how they work with my skin. I definitely have to be careful though with which products I pick with my sensitive skin. It can be hit and miss, probably more hit but I’m still anxious every time I put a new skincare product on because you never know how it’s going to react.
I thought I’d been taking better care of my skin throughout lockdown but it seems I’ve been breaking out a lot more than usual, I’m probably not letting my skin get as much fresh air as I should be but I haven’t seen so many spots on my face in years and that’s the truth.
I honestly thought changing up my skincare a little would help and having a new routine would see my skin glow but that’s not happened so I thought I’d purchase some new skincare and see how they work.
Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution.
The Glycolic Acid was one product I was excited to order because I’d heard it helped with reducing to minimise acne and pores but on the other hand was a little scared to test it on my skin. The first week using this really did sting and my skin felt hot for a good 20 minutes, I’ve only been using it twice a week which is perfect for an acid toner, I wouldn’t recommend using it more than that to be honest, I was really reluctant to keep using it after but I kinda knew it was going to sting a little because its acid, obviously. A couple more uses later and the tingling sensation definitely lowered which I was very thankful for because it’s such strange sensation.
Obviously I’m very new to using this toner but I can start to see some improvement in my skin, it feels softer and clearer and I’m impressed. It’s one toner I’m looking forward to keep using to see how it can improve my skin.
100% Organic Cold-Pressed Rose Hip Seed Oil.
I brought the Rose Hip Seed Oil after seeing people rave about it on Instagram and I have to say this, I love it. It’s one of the best oil’s I have used. Yes, I may have only been using it for 2 weeks and it’s a big statement to make but it’s an amazing product and one of my favourites from The Ordinary. I do really suffer with dry skin in the winter months and the rose hip seed oil has really given me back the hydration I needed into my skin, the only thing I would say is that it sits on your skin and takes a good while to sink in but I wake up with every morning with my skin looking and feeling fresh and glowy.
I’m so glad I brought into the hype of this product because i could really see a difference overnight and no I’m not just saying that, I really could. My skin was much more even in skin tone and just overall felt a lot brighter. Again, like the Glycolic Acid I have only been using this 3 times a week to make sure I don’t get my skin angry but I am really impressed so far.
The Ordinary is definitely the place to go if you want to start taking better care of your skin. The packaging is simple and effective and they really do have a product for any issue you are having but definitely check out the product descriptions to make sure they are going to be safe to use and always do a patch test if you can, this is definitely something I’d recommend if you have sensitive skin.

I’ve only ever tried the ordinary for their foundation but found that I was too much of a dry formula for my skin- if that makes sense? Would be a lot more suited to oily skin.
However I’ve not tried their skincare, mainly because I don’t understand what you use each different acid for and I do have quite sensitive skin, but I hear so many good things about the products!

Yeah that totally makes sense. I also have their foundation but have oily skin and it works for me haha! Oh I get that, it can be so confusing on what to go for, I just normally watch reviews and unboxings on YouTube and then it makes more sense. Even though I have sensitive skin I’ve had no problems so far with the acid apart from the stinging but that’s definitely dying down x
I love this post and your photos! I’ve only tried the Ordinary cleanser and I love it – the oil sounds brilliant x
Thank you so much, Della! Oh I haven’t tried the cleanser from they yet but I am totally in love with the oil, would totally recommend! x
I have heard about but never tried or used the ordinary. It does seem like a nice product tho and I love how cute the bottle looks haha.
They’re a great skincare company, one of the best and most affordable brands I’ve used! Oh yeah, I love the packaging too x
Can you believe I’ve never tried any products from this brand? I’ve heard endless good things though! I’m looking into trying different skincare lately because my skin is really bad and it needs a serious kick up the bum so I’ll definitely be keeping the ordinary in mind! Great review 🙂 x
Jenny! I actually can’t believe you haven’t, you honestly won’t regret trying The Ordinary out though. Some of the best skincare products out there right now x
Great review – I have heard so many things about The Ordinary from Tik Tok, but I haven’t tried it yet. My skin is pretty sensitive to new products, so I’m not sure if it will like these… Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

Thank you, Jenna! I was pretty nervous to add new products to my skin too but I think if you add them slowly into your routine then your skin should be get used to them pretty quickly! x
I love The Ordinary so much – their plant-derived squalene is one of my go-to’s! I haven’t heard of either of these two products before so it was really interesting to read your first impressions of them 🙂 x
