If you have very pale skin like myself you’ll know the struggles with finding a self-tan that looks natural. I can’t tell you how many I’ve tried in the last few years and I have ended up looking like a tangerine and not leaving the house for a few days. Because of growing up with pale skin (which I have no issue with and I love my pale skin) I have always struggled to find the right fake tan.
I’m not one of those people who use fake tan regularly, I just use it occasionally and I mean very occasionally. I’m way too lazy to keep up any kind of routine and with it being January and super cold, anyone else hate the cold weather? The only way to get a glow is with tanning products.
NYK1 Tan Force
This is a new tan I have recently been introduced to but after hearing it won first place at the Beauty Awards 2018, I was very excited to try it out and I always love finding new brands to try. Now of course I was hesitant as to whether it was going to be okay on my pale skin but I was pleasantly surprised.
It comes out in a clear foam which is something very different and I didn’t really know how I’d get on with as you can’t see where you’ve applied but it went on well and the smell isn’t actually too bad. I left it for a good few hours to let it develop and it left me with a really nice looking tan which wasn’t orange so I’m defneitly a fan of this tan (see what I did there). I was so afraid of it not drying quickly as I’ve just brought new bed sheets which are white so I obviously didn’t want to get tan on them but it dries instantly!
Oh and the tan is sold with two tanning mitts which are super soft, I think I can say the Mega Mitt is best tanning mit I have ever used, it’s made with soft velour and I don’t think I have to say anything else about it. There’s another little cute mit which can be used for your face as well which is a great idea. I’m always struggling to tan my face and usually make such a mess. They both wash really well also!
Rimmel Sun Shimmer
I first tried the Rimmel Sun Shimmer last year when I was gifted a few products from Influenster but I have since re-purchased myself because I loved them. There’s three different tan products in the sun shimmer range and the one I prefer is the mousse just because I love how easy it is to apply. It gives an instant colour and developes in an hour to give a really natural and streak-free tan that lasts up to 7 days although I didn’t exfoliate and prep my skin that well last time using it and my tan only lasted for about 4/5 days. Oh well.
St Tropez classic bronzing mousse
This was one of the first tan products I tried when I wanted a little bit of colour, even though I didn’t have a lot of knowledge about which fake tan would be the best for my pale skin I seemed to pick up one of the best products on the market at the time. The St. Tropez self tan bronzing mousse is honestly ideal for anyone just starting out and looking for a natural looking tan.
The tan is SO easy to apply and basically glides straight on which is good for people like me who are useless at applying tan. It comes with a colour guide so you know where you have applied which is very helpful as I’m always getting distracted when tanning which isn’t good.. There is a little hint of fake tan smell but that can’t really be avoided. It does take a while to dry and develop and hardly any transfers onto clothes or bed sheets. The tan really does leave you with a lovely healthy glow.
Skinny Tan – 7 Day Tan
I have only very recently purchased this and haven’t tried it yet so I’m not going to comment on this one as much but I’ve heard a lot of people rave about Skinny Tan and how amazing their tan was so I decided to get the 7 Day Tan which had some amazing reviews and a couple of my friends who are also pale like myself said how much they loved how natural the tan looked on them. I’m excited to see how it looks.
Skinny Tan describe it as “7-day tanner is a beautiful natural looking bronze cream tanner that goes on instantly and lasts up to 7 days”
TANNING TIP: When you’ve got exceptionally fair skin, it’s really important to exfoliate and moisturise your elbows, knees, feet and hands before applying any product.
Have I missed any tan’s that you would recommend for pale skin? Let me know.

Love this post! Will definitely try these out because I’m super pale and always so scared of fake tan as I’m not sure what works for pale skin!

Ah! Glad it’s helpful x
Great post! I’m totally the same as you – super pale but also only tan on a seriously random occasion.
I’e never actually tried any of these 3 tans but sound worth a shot.
Thanks lovely! I’m not sure I could tan regularly, it’s too much of a chore haha xo
