Rhodes | Photo Diary

Judging by the title I’m guessing you’ve figured out that I’ve been to Rhodes. I think a change of scenery can do you a world of good and it’s definitely helped me get my blog mojo back as I had been struggling a lot before trying to motivate myself to do anything blog related and I was getting so frustrated but after my trip I’ve come back so refreshed and ready to up my blogging game.

Rhodes is such a beautiful island and I could have happily stayed longer but unfortunately I was only there a week but I had the BEST time. To say I took a few photos would be an understatement but I thought I’d share some with you as I’m into my photography more now and really enjoyed getting my camera out and had chance to experiment a bit more with photography.

We didn’t do too much on our trip as we just wanted to relax so most of our time we spent in the hotel sunbathing which isn’t a bad thing although I would have loved to go out more and explore. The hotel we stayed in was beautiful, even though we had to change rooms the second night as we didn’t get any sleep the first night due to our room being right next to one of the bars so we asked to be moved and the hotel was so lovely and put us on the top floor in a perfect room with an even more gorgeous view.

Just a few days after arriving we had booked a trip around Rhodes and even thought it was such an early start (I had to get up a 5am) I didn’t mind as we weren’t going to explore Rhodes and I was so excited. There was about a couple of hours on a coach until we reached the first destination which had a beautiful harbour and church, we only spent 20 minutes here taking a few photos then we went off to a 9D cinema to watch the history of Rhodes and it was an amazing experience.

Although we were on a coach for most of the day as most of the places were quite far from each other it didn’t really bother me as it was SO hot while walking about, I was kind of glad to get back on the coach to get some air con haha. Now I wish I could remember the name of the places we visited but I can’t. I’m the worst, I probably should have noted them down.

I think my most favourite part of the trip though was visiting The Old Town of Rhodes. It was just so beautiful and there’s so many instagramable moments which I definitely didn’t take advantage of. I mean I could have stayed there all week and not get bored of taking photo’s. There’s so many alleyways and little paths which were so cute and I kind of fell in love with them. I just wanted to take photo’s of them all but that might have been too excessive.. Maybe. 

Walking around The Old Town of Rhodes it felt so peaceful. The only downside is that we just didn’t have enough time to explore and look around as the guide only gave us 1 hour and a half to have food, take photo’s and go shopping but in the end we didn’t even have time to go into the shops. We would have loved to go back but the journey from our hotel to The Old Town was just too far so it wasn’t possible. So if anyone is planning to go to Rhodes in the future I’d say try to find a hotel quite near so you can visit by yourself then you will have all the time in the world to sightsee and take photo’s.

I took the photo above while my mom and sister were looking at a map as we were so lost and didn’t have a clue how to get back to the main square of The Old Town. We were trying to find a restaurant and stumbled into the outskirts then couldn’t find our way back. We did eventually get back into the main square and found somewhere to have lunch.

After another coach ride our last stop was at a massive amphitheatre and I say massive but it was HUGE. It wasn’t just an amphitheatre but there was actually a stadium where they ran the 200 metres years ago. The history behind it all was overwhelming and the guide with us was so helpful and knew everything about the history of Rhodes. Any questions we asked she had the answer to every one. After visiting the amphitheatre I was shattered but I loved every minute of that day.

I would honestly love to go back to Rhodes but the airport is such a shambles it would really put me off returning which is such a shame. I won’t go into detail about the airport but it’s tiny, my mom had an argument with a lady from a different country and it got a little heated, the whole process of the airport is shocking and we were delayed because they were prioritising other passengers on a different flight who were going much later than we were. That’s all I’m going to say about that but I did think Thomas Cook could have done more to help. Anyway, I hope you enjoyed this little photo diary!
