My favourite editing apps for blog photography

I first started just editing on my iPhone and it was fine at the time as I didn’t have much of a clue what I was doing. Fast forward over the years and I’ve used countless apps to help get the aesthetic that I want. I’d say the most used app up until a couple of weeks ago has been VSCO. I think it’s the perfect gateway from your iPhone edit’s to get a little more serious with your photography but not too complicated to understand and the filters aren’t too overpowering. It’s one of those apps that if you spend a little time flickering though you can get to grips with it quite easily.

As I said above I was totally a VSCO convert, well that was until a couple of weeks ago when I discovered Lightroom. Well, I say discovered. I’ve known about Lightroom for a good year but could never get to grips with it. I found it a lot more overwhelming than other apps I’ve used.

I’ve definitely taken a journey with my editing since starting my blog in 2016. Starting with bright white and kinda out of focus photo’s and now we’ve taken a whole turn to darker and more professional looking blog images which I’m super proud of.

I thought i’d share some of the best editing apps I have come across since getting a little more serious with my blog photography..

Lightroom

As I mentioned a little bit above, I am now very much a fan of Lightroom. I started playing around with it a few weeks ago and definitely understand it a lot more now than I previously did. A lot of people class it as a more basic version of photoshop.

Presets are the one thing to make your photo’s go from zero to WOW. You can make your own which I very much tried to do but failed otherwise you can actually buy them from other creators. Recently Kate released a collection of presets which I completely fell in love with. The caffeine dream collection is just gorgeous and the presets are something I’ve been wanting to create myself but just haven’t been able to get right.

Editing for me now is so simple with the presets. Just one click and done although and I normally adjust when needed. Lightroom is perfect for those simple tweaks, like altering the saturation, brightness or a particular colour that you want to tone down. Lightroom is just perfect for wanting to take your photo’s to the next level.

VSCO

I was a total VSCO lover. Up until a couple of weeks ago I was using it to edit all my blog and instagram photo’s and honestly still love it as much as the day I started using it, i find it so easy to use and the filter choice is so good and I actually get a lot of inspiration from their discover page.

My first filter of choice was HB1 but over time I’ve come to love A6 even more. I normally only have it on 70% or less and then tend to adjust the exposure, saturation etc.

As I’m now Lightroom obsessed all I ever seem to edit on VSCO is my animal crossing photo’s. Yeah I have a separate twitter for all things animal crossing so I don’t go on as often but it will always be one of my favourite editing apps.

RetroCam

Quite a new addition to my favourite editing apps but Retrocam is becoming a top favourite. It offers textures, grains and light leaks to add something a little more to your photo to give it that old school retro vibe. It is free but you can pay to access a lot more of the effects etc. but I honestly don’t think it’s needed. There’s enough free one’s to get you started.

I love adding them to my photo’s as a last touch just to give them that retro vibe. Oh they also do frames which I love using sometimes for my instagram stories.

Retouch

I saw retouch advertised on Instagram one day and decided to check it out for myself. The app basically removes unwanted items from your photo with just a brush tool with is super simple to get to grips with.

So basically if there was a light switch in one of your photo’s which you didn’t want in because let’s face it light switches aren’t aesthetic you simply use the brush tool to wipe it out. it’s just so simple.

This app is perfect for holiday photo’s I’ve found as you can edit people out of your photo’s too which is very handy. This is one app I’m glad I found to be honest and it’s forever saving me from those unwanted items in my photo’s.
