Wether you’re self isolating or social distancing, we are all trying to adjust to the new normal way of living right now.
It’s super important, now more than ever to look after ourselves and practice self care. I’ve put together a few tips that are helping me right now and hopefully they’ll help you too.
Limit your time online
I know myself I have been spending way more time online than I usually do as I’m now at home all day, every day. It’s hard to stay productive when social media is such a big distraction especially if you’re a blogger. One thing I have been doing is putting limits on my phone time on certain apps like TikTok because I spend an unhealthy amount of time on there and it’s been helping with my anxiety as that’s at an all time high right now but it’s just good to get yourself away from social media even just for a little while longer than normal.
Maintain a routine
Everyone is different but I personally can’t cope without some sort of routine or daily to-do list. Try to wake up and go to sleep at the same time every day if possible. Even if you don’t feel like getting changed into normal clothes, take a shower then put a new pair of pyjamas on (it’s the action that helps). I know nothing about this is normal but trying to keep to your normal routine as much as possible will help you get through the day and coming weeks.
De-clutter
One of my favourite things to do is de-clutter, I just love organising and making sure everything is in the right place. Why not take time to tackle that drawer that you’ve been meaning to do for a while or re-arrange the furniture. I’m going to tackle my room next week and I’ve just started to organise my wardrobe but it’s going to take me a good while to get through..
Do some exercise
There are so many people doing online workouts now including Joe Wicks who does a workout every morning at 9 on YouTube so if you’re self isolating it’s the perfect way to get moving or if you’re not in actual quarantine then go for a walk or run outside obviously while keeping your distance from others. I’m working out most days and trying to mix it up so I’ll go for a run one day then do a workout the next so it doesn’t get too repetitive, it’s doing so much for my mental and physical health!
Dedicate one hour per day
Take one hour per day, weather that be in the morning or just before bed to focus completely on yourself. This may not seem that important but by taking the time to disconnect and do something that relaxes you is so good for your health. Set a timer for one hour and turn your phone off, open a book, do some colouring. Just something that makes you feel happy and relaxed. You will feel so much better for it.
Remember that you’re not alone
Sometimes self care is important but reaching out to your community can be even more important especially in times like these. Check on your family by sending a text, FaceTime your friends, set up a Zoom call with all your family. Also, If you are still able to get outside, consider helping a neighbour in need by getting some food obviously keeping the 2 metre distance.

Such a great post! I literally did the same thing last week and put a time limit on my phone for TikTok. I seriously did not realize how addicting it was!! Thanks for sharing!

I’m exercising daily which is great because I’m always finding new exercise videos to do! I love the idea of dedicating one hour per day towards doing something that makes you happy! x

That’s great that you’re doing daily exercise, it think it helps so much with the mental side. It’s amazing to see how many video’s are out there right now! x
Great post. I do think I should reduce my screen time in this time period.
Thank you! Yeah, I think it’s so important to get off the screens and just take some time out from it all! It can become so overwhelming x
I would love to declutter my house, but with 4 kids at home it’s really difficult to stay motivated and focused. I really like the idea of having an hour to yourself. Thanks for putting this list together.
Yeah I can imagine how crazy having 4 kids right now would be. I think it’s so important to have that hour just to relax and take some time for yourself. Thank you so much for reading! x
I love love love this post! I’m trying to balance my time between work and me. It’s soo hard to switch off from work while working from home. Exercise is soo important before this I would only go to the gym Saturday and Sunday. Now though I’m walking at least one mile which for me is a great accomplishment. Thank-you for sharing your self-care tips, Sam! I need to incorporate some of these into my schedule.
