This post is sponsored by Soho Home but all thoughts and views are my own.
I thought it was time to start the festive posts as we are now in December, can you believe it? I can’t. I’m bringing you this post just in time for the festive season which is in collaboration with Soho Home and their beautiful cocktail set which is perfect for entertaining during the holidays.
For those who celebrate Christmas, it’s one of the most special times of the year and for me it means spending quality time with family and friends and making memories and as it’s getting closer and closer to the festive season and most people have their Christmas decorations up or are planning to very soon.
I think trying to accessorise your home for Christmas is exciting but if you’ve only just moved into your first home it can be so overwhelming trying to pick a colour theme, do you stick with traditional or go with something more modern, I think Pinterest can definitely help though, I have a board entirely dedicated to Christmas.
If you’re looking for some ideas on how to accessorise your home for Christmas this year, hopefully my ideas below will be able to help..
First things first, you probably need to choose a traditional colour palette. I think it’s always best to pick a colour you already love. Obviously red and gold is a popular colour scheme but if you want to go more modern, silver is a good choice. However, red and green is a classic colour combination that will make your home feel cosy and Christmassy.
Get cosy with Candles.
Candles can make anywhere in your home feel cosy, especially the scents of cinnamon, pine and berries. Placing candles in your windows or on the fireplace, or even the centre of a table which is where I prefer mine to be they can just make your home feel that little bit more festive. Oh and you could also scatter some upstairs so your while house would smell amazing! I honestly don’t think there’s anything better than a nice smelling festive candle.
Get Creative.
I think homemade items in a house make it a home around the festive season. When it comes to homemade decorations they always seem to stand out, whether it’s something little like a few snowflakes cut out of some paper or a homemade gingerbread house. Not only are seasonal decorations a unique way to add holiday spirit to your home, they’re just as easy as they are festive.
Add a little tinsel.
Some people love it but other people hate it. Personally I’ve grown up with tinsel in my family and it’s always been a staple decoration in our home. It’s cheap and cheerful and can be used pretty much everywhere in your home. Wether it’s on your Christmas tree, draped over some photo’s or even wrapped around a banister, tinsel will always add that little extra sparkle. Remember to make sure that your tinsel matches the colour scheme of the rest of your festive decor.
Change to Christmas cushions.
Replacing your normal cushions with some lovely festive ones are a great way to add some festive cheer to your room. I think the little touches like changing cushions or throws make that extra magical difference. Oh and you also get the excuse to buy more cushions so you can’t go wrong, really?!
Keep your floors warm with rugs.
With it getting colder, a rug is a great way to keep you warm and cosy as well as bringing a dash of festive colour into the room. I think a rug is just a lovely decoration as you’ll be able to use it throughout the year.
Add a statement table decoration.
There are so many amazing accessories which help add a Christmassy touch to your table without going completely overboard, you can create the wow factor without spending too much money. Table runners are a great choice, or a lovely candle holder nothing too elaborate or it will normally over power the table and you obviously need all the room to get all the food on the table as that’s the most important thing isn’t it?!
You can’t go wrong with fairy lights.
Fairy lights are one thing you can never have too many of. They bring some added sparkle to any room in the house, wether you’ve got them wrapped around the Christmas tree or hanging off the windows. Oh and you also use lights to decorate within foliage which always look super pretty. (P.S – battery operated sets are great to avoid loose wires in a house).
The Christmas tree.
Last but not least the main focal point in all living rooms is the Christmas tree. You obviously want to make sure you stick with your colour palette with deciding on the baubles and wether or not your going to add tinsel and then decide if you would rather go with an artificial or natural tree. At the moment we have an artificial one but I’ve always loved the idea of getting a real one.
I hope you enjoyed this post and maybe gained some ideas on how to accessorise your home this Christmas?

Love this! I’m a fairylights person all year round, but I’m definitely going to invest in some candles and Christmas cushions! I’ve never really been a candle person but I want to start getting into them!

I’m the same, I get get enough of all the pretty lights haha. I think Christmas cushions are such a great idea to make your room that little bit more festive 🙂 x
great post! decorating the home is one of my favorite parts of the season, there’s nothing like pulling up to the house after a long day at work and seeing the christmas tree lit in the front window. usually my family puts up ornaments that have been collected over everyone’s lifetime meaning some are pretty old and tacky just due to what was on trend during those years. this year we decided to switch it up a little and we’re all loving it. xxx
