To be honest before I was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma I hadn’t heard of Blood Cancer UK (formerly Bloodwise). This post explains what the charity basically does without going into too much detail as there is so much they are involved in, If you would like to know more please visit their website.

So, who are Blood Cancer UK? They are the UK’s specialist blood cancer charity, they were founded in 1960 by a family called the Eastwoods, who sadly lost their 6 year old daughter Susan to leukaemia. They believed there could and should be hope for people with blood cancer. Since 1960 Blood Cancer UK have invested over £500 million in a number of different research projects which have helped improve understanding, diagnosis and treatment of blood cancers which is amazing.
Blood cancer is the most common cancer in children and young adults, with almost 2 in 5 cancers being blood cancer.
What does Blood Cancer UK do?
Today, two-thirds of everyone diagnosed with blood cancer will still be here in five years time which is awesome! Since 1960, Bloodwise invested more than £500 million in blood cancer research – transforming survival rates and improving the lives of people with blood cancer. At any one time they have over £90 million invested in research, and they are currently funding over 1,000 researchers and clinicians across more than 220 active research projects.
They provide vital support to everyone affected by blood cancer, whether your a patient, a family member, a doctor or nurse. They have one of the largest collections of information and support on the internet and a dedicated free support line (0808 2080 888) which is available Monday to Friday – 10am until 4pm.
They rely solely on the generosity of supporters to carry on their life saving work. Every donation big or small truly changes the lives of people affected by blood cancer, funding ground-breaking and blood cancer research and vital patient services. Please consider donating to this fantastic charity. Thank you.
To be able to say I’m an ambassador for Blood Cancer UK makes me so proud and I will be forever trying to raise awareness for them and blood cancer. Follow Blood Cancer UK on Twitter & Facebook.
