A week in Cornwall – Part II

Welcome to Part 2 of my trip to Cornwall! I’ve left it longer than I would have liked to write this second part of my trip as I’ve had a lot on lately but let’s get on with it! Oh and if you didn’t catch part 1 go and catch up now because who would want to read part 2 when your haven’t read part 1.. That would be crazy.

Tuesday.

SO, Tuesday came around. I felt like the week was going super quick but I always feel like any day does when you’re enjoying it.

I knew while we were in Cornwall I wanted to take a trip to the Eden Project. Oh I will be doing a photo diary as I took way too many photo’s for this post. Anyway, It’s somewhere I have always wanted to visit as I’ve seen so many photo’s and read so much about it. I just knew I wanted to go and see it in real life so we made the drive down and even though it was one of the longest drives we had to do while in Cornwall, it was worth it.

Once we parked, there was quite a walk from the car park to the entrance but it was filled was lots of little information cards and pretty flowers so I didn’t mind the walk at all. Once we reached the entrance and paid (it’s not cheap) we walked out onto a big wooden viewing area, well that’s what I would call it but that’s not the actual name. From the viewing area you walked straight out to the biomes which looked amazing.

After taking about 30 photo’s from the viewing platform we then made our way down towards the biomes. We hadn’t even been in for 20 minutes yet I had already taken more photo’s than I wanted too (I was trying to free up some storage).

The first biome we made our way to was the Mediterranean and the first impressions were just WOW. I don’t think I could explain in words just how beautiful it looked. There’s over 1,000 varieties of plants and every single one looked so well looked after.

There were so many places to take photo’s so I was very much in my element. It took us a good 40-50 minutes to walk around and that was with me stopping every 10 seconds to take a photo of another pretty flower..

it’s worth the trip for just this one biome honestly, it was just stunning and there was also a restaurant inside which looked so good, unfortunately we didn’t end up eating as it was just too warm inside.

After the Mediterranean biome we headed straight for the Rainforest biome where the heat hits you as soon as you step inside, literally. Inside the biome it’s anywhere from 18-35 degrees and I couldn’t have taken my cardigan off any faster.

The rainforest biome is the largest indoor rainforest in the world with over 1,000 varieties of plant and it wasn’t hard to see why. My idea of heaven apart from the heat as it was just so humid and when it’s busy I just can’t. As soon as we stepped inside I couldn’t stop snapping everywhere. Plants are just so aesthetic aren’t they?!

I could have spent most of the day in the biome taking photo’s, I was very much in my happy place. It did take a good while to walk around, I’d say we where in there for around an hour although it did seem longer. The sweat was dripping off all of us, it wasn’t good but there were some parts with water in so that kept us cool, oh and there was a cool room in which you can sit down but it was packed with people so we had to leave it but I loved the idea of it!

I’ll talk about the rainforest more in the photo diary soon. After the rainforest we decided to have some lunch outside which was really nice then we took a look around the invisible worlds exhibition which was super interesting and well worth a visit. After, we just took some time to look around the outdoor gardens and relax a little as the Eden Project isn’t small and takes you a lot of time to get around to places.

We drove back to our holiday home and had time to spend in the hot tub before having some food and heading to bed.

Wednesday.

Again, one of the longest travelling days but we were planning on going to Flambards which if you don’t know is a theme park. It’s more family friendly than anything but it’s where me and my sister spent a lot of our time when we came down to Conwall as kids and we were so excited to go back on some of the rides we went on back then, just for the nostalgia really.

We didn’t arrive till 11ish but when we did the car park was emptier than we imagined it would be, even though Flambards is small we thought it may have been busier as it was windy but still sunny.

We walked onto most of all the rides as it was so quiet but it was really nice to go back to a place where I could remember going on the helicopter ride with my grandad and now being able to go on with my sister this time as I couldn’t reach the pedals when I was younger so grandad had to do most of the work. It didn’t matter that the rides were for mostly youngish children there was still a few bigger rides but it was just nostalgia of coming back.

They have a massive Victorian village at Flambards which takes you right back in time to experience what life was like in Victorian Britain so we wondered around that for a good hour and a half I think, it looks tiny from the outside but it’s massive. We weren’t even halfway around and I needed the toilet so had to walk all the way back out to find the toilet then back in, what a nightmare.

After the Victorian village we managed to get on a few more rides before the park closed for the day. It took us a good couple of hours to get back and we were all so exhausted although we did find time to have a play in the games room.

Thursday.

On the last but one day we decided to make the journey down to Polperro & then stop off at Looe on the way back for some last minute shopping for all the souvenirs etc.

Polperro has got to be one of my most favourite villages in Cornwall, it’s just so beautiful even though it’s one of the smallest. It’s quite a walk from the car park to the main town area but you can get a ride on a little cart although we decided to skip it as we’d had a long car drive and felt like the walk.

There were some small shops to look in on the way down and of course I had my camera out at any opportunity snapping away at the cutest little houses. I would be very happy living in Polperro, it’s somewhere I can imagine myself in because it’s so close to the sea and has the most beautiful little shops and cafes, my dream place.

Once your past all the shops you come to the harbour, beach and sea and that’s where most people end up as it’s only small there’s not a lot of places to stand etc but the views were just amazing. We spent a good while taking photo’s and we headed down onto the beach which is where I spotted a cave that was hidden away and decided to head in, unfortunately it was way too dark & scary to go right inside but I did take one of my most favourite shots from while I was in Cornwall.

We did only spend a few hours in Polperro as there’s not a lot to do but it is very pretty so if you are ever down in Conrnwall it’s one place where you definitely want to have on your list to visit. After we had explored it was around lunchtime and even though there were a few little cafes to eat we decided to leave Polperro and head for Looe.

Obviously the first thing we did when we got to Looe was have food so we ended up having fish and chips from Kelly’s where we had eaten on our first day because they were just too good. Unfortunately, I didn’t feel that well as I was eating and ended up spending the rest of the day feeling sick and very tired, fortunately it was coming to the end of our holiday so I wasn’t that bothered.

We spent a good few hours shopping and just taking a last walk by the beach before heading back towards the car, oh but not before spending the last few moments in the amusements, we had to be quick though as the car park was running out, I couldn’t have ran in fast enough.

We got back to our holiday home about 5pm, spent a couple of hours in the games room and eating food and then packed up ready for in the morning.

Friday.

The last day so there’s not much for me to say. I always find the night before the last day so sad because you just know in the morning it’s all over and then it’s back to reality.

We packed up quite early and left about 10am, we wanted to get on the road early and get back as soon as we could but of course we had time to stop for a McDonald’s, you aren’t doing holidays right if you don’t have at least one. We did get held up a little but otherwise it wasn’t a bad drive home.

Now you know why I had to do this in two parts or you would have had about 4,000 words to read in one post and no-one wants that. It was a lovely holiday and I loved spending time with my family in a place where I remembered so many memories from my childhood. Cornwall is such a cute place, it’s somewhere I could visit again and again. Have you ever been to Cornwall or thought of visiting?
