It’s been a good few months since I passed my driving test and it has to be one of my biggest achievements to date. It did take me a while but I finally have a pink licence and my own little car. Yes, I’m very basic and have a Fiat 500.
I honestly didn’t believe when I actually passed, I think I was just in shock and said to the examiner “no, have I really passed?” I just couldn’t believe it.
When I first started driving this huge fear of anxiety came over me which is why it took me so long to pass. I never thought I’d be the person who would love driving but it’s finally happened. If you’re someone who thinks you are never going to get that test passed, you will and can do this.
I haven’t stopped learning since passing my test. Everyday, I learn something new wether that be good or bad..
Your first drive will be your scariest.
I remember my first little drive by myself and honestly I was shaking before getting in the car, I had decided to only go to a little village about 15 minutes from my house and back again just to get used to the car and clutch. I had the radio on but not very loud.
The only thing I was worried about was stalling (which did happen but only once). Once I’d got home and parked I felt such a sigh of relif, the first drive with no-one in the passenger seat will feel weird but you will feel so proud and better for it.
Hills will be your worst enemy.
I don’t know about anyone else but I HATE hills with a passion. Oh and especially if your in a queue and the car behind is right up your bumper. They just give me the worst anxiety and I always think that I’m never going to actually get up the hill without stalling or rolling backwards. If there’s a way around to avoid the hill I will find it.
You’ll forget the Highway Code almost immediately.
You’ll see a sign and forget what exactly it means. The amount of reading and memorising I had to go through for my theory test and now I can hardly remember what the signs mean.. Oooppss.
Getting petrol will become a chore.
Omg. It was only a couple of weeks ago that I put petrol in my car all by myself, obviously I had put petrol in my car before then but it’s always been with someone. I’d convinced myself I was going to put diesel in instead of petrol.. Thankfully I didn’t.
Does anyone else hate getting petrol? I just find it such a boring thing to do and it’s just one thing I wish I didn’t have to do although it’s not too bad now you can pay at the pump so you don’t have to interact with anyone. I’m such an introvert.
You’ll become the laziest person.
I have some small shops like a 5 minute walk down the road but I’ll still go in my car because why would I want to walk when I can get there and back in 5 minutes..
You will lose all ability to parallel park.
You will honestly just avoid any situation you have to parallel park. Ever since passing my test in December I haven’t paralleled parked once, nope not once but its not like I won’t ever. Well, maybe but we’ll have to see..
Other drivers will annoy you constantly.
When I was a passenger in a car I never really knew why the driver got so angry at another driver for being right up their bumper or pulling out in front of them because honestly there’s bigger things in life to get frustrated at but now I GET IT.
I swear so much when I’m in the car by myself (sorry mom) but there’s just something that comes over you. The thing that annoys me the most is when people don’t put their hand up to say thank you for letting them go, it’s something so little which takes 2 seconds.
